FAQs

How long will it take for me to obtain my Investment Advice Diploma?

On average it takes about 6 - 7 weeks to complete each unit of the IAD.  This equates to 70 - 100 hours of self study, plus a classroom course for each unit.

Who runs the Investment Advice Diploma?

The Chartered Insitute of Securities and Investment is the examining body for the Investment Advice Diploma.  They administer the exams and you arrange to take the exam through them.

How regularly do courses run?

We run courses every three weeks.  Click here to see our dates and prices.

How is the exam sat?

The exam registration fee is paid through the CISI.  For the multiple choice exams (all units except Private Client Advice) they put you in touch with Prometric who organise the test centres.  So you simply find a test centre close to you and book a convenient available time slot.

The Private Client Advice unit is examined by written exam and the exams are scheduled in June and December.

How close to the course should I book the exam?

We advise that delegates schedule their exams in the second week after the conclusion of a three day intensive course, or in the first week after the fourth day of a standard course.

Does the cost of the course include the exam fee?

The cost of the courses quoted on our website does not include the exam fee; this is payable directly to the examining body.  7city does offer a fully managed exam administration service for corporate clients, however individuals booking the course and exam on their own behalf are responsible for booking the exams themselves.

Do I need to take the units in any particular order?

If you are taking the private client advice (PCA) paper, we recommend sitting this after you have completed the regulations and investment, risk and taxation units.  The PCA exam draws on prior knowledge of the FSA Regulations and Professional Integrity and Investment, Risk and Taxation papers.

Candidates sitting Securities should first sit Investment, risk and taxation as some knowledge of the Investment, risk and taxation syllabus is assumed in Securities.
