IMC Journey

Who takes the IMC?

The IMC is the first step to a career in the investment profession.  Currently held by over 15,000 investment professionals, it is recognised by the fund management industry as the entry level qualification of choice and is often quoted as a pre-requisite for posts in investment management companies.

The IMC’s wide-ranging syllabus provides an excellent introduction to the investment profession for those working in:

  • Investment management
  • Investment support
  • Investment administration
  • Industry related areas, including information technology, compliance and marketing
  • Pension trustees, administrators and independent financial advisors looking to further their knowledge of the investment management process.

Why enroll in the IMC?

As a first step towards a career in the investment profession, the IMC is an excellent introduction.  FSA approved and RDR compliant, it is well recognised within the industry as an indication of a thorough understanding and knowledge of investment management.  It is also a stepping stone to global professional qualifications, such as the CFA program. Upon completion of the IMC, you will have the right to become a member of the CFA Society of the UK and apply to use the designatory letters IMC.

What's on the syllabus?

The IMC is split into two units:

  • Investment Environment - covering topics including the regulatory environment, markets, taxation and client objectives
  • Investment Practice - covering topics including financial instruments, portfolio management, accounting, economics and statistics
