Who takes the CISI Diploma?
The CISI Diploma in Investment Compliance is designed for compliance professionals looking to increase their knowledge and enhance their professional standing. It's also suitable if you work in the financial services industry and you want to gain a greater understanding and knowledge of the regulatory regime, or if you're a professional advisor who has an interest in financial services. It is relevant for both wholesale and retail firms.

Gaining the CISI Diploma in Investment Compliance demonstrates a greater understanding of the regulatory regime and a greater aptitude for higher level roles in the industry. The individual components of the Diploma are recognised by the FSSC as key components of Appropriate Examinations and on completion you will be eligible for membership status of the CISI and have the right to use the designatory letters MSI.
What's on the syllabus?
The CISI Diploma in Investment Compliance is made up of three modules. You must pass all three to be awarded the diploma:
- Module 1- Introduction to investment
- Module 2 - CISI regulatory paper
- Module 3 - Regulation and compliance
We recommend that you take the modules in order, since this allows you to build up your knowledge to the higher level that is expected in module 3.
If you're a CISI IAQ or Certificate holder, you only need to take one additional unit (module 3) to achieve the qualification.
How much work is required?
Modules 1 and 2 take about six weeks to complete. We recommend 30-35 hours of study plus course attendance for module 1 and 10 hours of study plus course attendance for module 2. Module 3 will take 6 months to complete and demands about 100 hours of study plus course attendance.
When are the exams?
Modules 1 and 2 are multiple choice exams and are examined via computer based testing. They can be sat at any time throughout the year. Module 3 consists of a three and a quarter hour exam based on short answers, case study and essay questions. It can be sat twice yearly, in June and December.
