About the CISI Certificates

Who takes the CISI Certificates?

There are seven different certificates composed of two units available if you work in wholesale. Which one you choose will depend on which area of the industry you work in:

  • Securities
  • Derivatives
  • Financial derivatives
  • Investment management
  • Commodity derivatives
  • Corporate finance
  • Risk in financial services

Why enroll in the CISI Certificates?

The CISI Level 3 Certificates are designed specifically to meet the requirements of individuals working in the securities and derivatives markets who need to obtain FSA Approved Person status.  They are also highly regarded.  The qualification is globally portable and designed to address the needs of an international market place.  Upon successful completion you will have the right to use the professional designatory letters ASI.

What's on the syllabus?

To gain the CISI Level 3 Certificate, you must pass one of the regulatory units:

  • FSA Financial Regulation
  • Principles of Financial Regulation

And one of the technical units, depending on your role:

  • Securities
  • Derivatives
  • Financial Derivatives
  • Commodity Derivatives
  • Investment Management
  • Risk in Financial Services

How much work is required?

We estimate that you will need to do 15 hours of study, plus course attendance, for the regulations paper and between 30 - 35 hours of study plus course attendance for the technical units, with the exception of Investment and Risk which will take you about 20 - 25 hours to prepare for (excluding course attendance). 

When are the exams?

The CISI Level 3 Certificates are examined by multiple choice.  The exam is administered via computer-based testing and exams run throughout the year. More detail
