Questions about the course
- I'm interested in taking the CFA exam. Are there any pre-requisites?
The only pre-requisite is to have a degree. If you do not have a degree, you need to have four years relevant work experience, however we cannot advise you on whether your experience is appropriate. You need to contact the CFA Institute.
- How long does the CFA program take to complete?
It is possible to complete the CFA program in two years, if you start studying in August and take the first level in December, followed by the second level in June and the third level the following year. This is obviously contingent on passing each level first time. On average it takes three to four years to complete the full program.
- What happens after I pass my Level III exam?
You need to apply to gain your charter with the CFA Institute and prove you have four years relevant work experience. If you do not have this experience, you will not gain the charter.
- Can 7city book the CFA exam for me?
We book exams for corporate clients, but we don't book them for individuals. If the candidate is from a managed account, you need to post us the original booking form so we can send this off to the CFA Institute. We charge the exact amount that the CFA Institute charges and do not give any discounts on exam bookings. Individuals will need to book onto the exam themselves, however this is a very simple process and takes about 10 minutes to complete.
- What are 7city's pass rates?
We are unable to quote any of our pass rates for the CFA. This is a stipulation made by the CFA Institute. We are recognised members of their Prep Provider Program. A list of approved providers can be found on their website.
- I'm an international student and wish to extend my student visa
No, we are a private training institution and our courses are not considered to be full time therefore we cannot help out with visa applications/extensions.
Questions about tuition and support
- What happens in the classroom?
We don't just go through the slide pack. We work with you. Our tutors bring to life the concepts that you have read in your workbook and seen on the portal. We'll look at how to use that knowledge to answer the questions to get you through the exam and to help you apply it in the workplace. The class is also a great opportunity to meet other like minded professionals and discuss common concerns and questions.
- What happens in the workshops?
We run six workshops throughout the course of the study period to target difficult topic areas. Three are available to view as recordings online, three can be attended in person. Anyone studying CFA with 7city can sign up to attend. Workshops feature timed Q&A sessions, exam tips and a review of key technical areas.
- What are my classroom study options?
- Two day revision course
Our two day classroom revision course is available for both classroom and virtual learners. It focuses on reviewing key areas and question practice. Recordings and notes from the class are also available to download from the online portal.
- What is the format of the invigilated mock exam?
To ensure that you are fully prepared for the rigours of exam day, we give you a realistic mock exam that recreates exam conditions. It is six hours long and properly invigilated at one of our training centres. After the mock exam you will have access to an online debrief by one of our expert CFA tutors. They will run through each topic area, providing advice and support on how to improve on your score for the real exam.
- What is the difference between a class recording and live streaming?
Class recordings are available to download in MP3 or MP4 format. You can view them at any time. They're useful if you can't attend the class or to revisit particular topics you're struggling with. We also live stream some of our classes, so that even if you can't get to the classroom, you can join the class online. You can view the session in real time and there are opportunities to ask questions as the class progresses.
- If I miss one of my classes can I attend one from a different program?
We cannot guarantee it, but we will do our utmost to accommodate you.
- What is Formal mentoring?
Scheduled at four key stages throughout the study period, one of our dedicated CFA mentors will call you. We like to make sure that you are happy with the study resources available to you and take full advantage of our online portal to manage and track your CFA studies. Our mentors will review your performance reports and discuss particular areas of weakness. And before the exam they will share their insights into exam technique and final revision tips. We've set aside more than 400 hours of our time to ensure that you receive the support and guidance necessary to help you pass the CFA exams. Formal mentoring is available for level I students only to help settle into CFA study.
